नेपाल के आम चुनावों के बाद नेपाली कांग्रेस के साथ गठबंधन में चुनाव लड़ने वाली नेपाली कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी (माओवादी) के नेता प्रचंड ने चुनाव के पश्चात पाला बदल कर नेपाली कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी (एकीकृत मार्क्सवादी लेनिनवादी) के साथ गठबंधन कर लिया और दोनों पार्टियों के समझौते के तहत प्रचंड ने सरकार बनाने का दावा किया और राष्ट्रपति बिद्यादेवी भंडारी ने उन्हें देश का नया प्रधानमंत्री नियुक्त किया। प्रचंड आज प्रधानमंत्री पद की शपथ लेंगे।
